A Revolutionary Workout
From stuff@night April 2008
Be honest: how often do you really push yourself at the gym? If your workouts involve a People magazine and a leisurely 30 minutes on the elliptical, it's time to take things to the next level. Lucky for you, personal training company BodyEvolver recently joined forces with Revolution Fitness (209 Columbus Avenue, Boston, 617.536.3006)--which means you can enjoy the gym's newly renovated 17,000 square foot facility (think swanky locker rooms and climate-controlled studios) while being sculpted into shape by BodyEvolver's trainers brandishing climbing ropes, kettlebells, Olympic rings, and the other tools of the trade. Come summertime, that new bikini will thank you.
Top Local Trainer: Mike D'Angelo
From Allure magazine January 2008
"You'll literally be able to see the changes to your body," said D'Angelo, pointing to the chart he'd just calculated based on our body mass index. D'Angelo updates the chart so clients can witness their progress. But first, the workout--a breathless mix of lunges and timed crunches. It was chased with 30 minutes on the treadmill, during which D'Angelo affably prodded us along with tales of rock-hard quads and increased metabolic rates. One-hour session, $100.

Body Evolver on TV
Mike D' on MTV's MADE: Saturday, January 12 at 2pm
From the Boston Herald.
Mike D'Angelo, the trainer to Boston's Beautiful People, pumps up his national rep tomorrow when he takes a 17-year-old tomboy with 'tude and transforms her into a graceful figure skater on MTV's "Made."
On the one-hour show, the BodyEvolver owner is paired up with Jessica, a Dedham high school senior, who has been playing football and wrestling with the boys. She decides to become more of a girly-girl to score a date for the homecoming dance.
"I came in to try to wrap her brain around good nutrition, strength training, conditioning and balance exercises," he said. "She was a little rough around the edges but she came around. It was a big step for a tomboy like her."
Mike, who worked with Jessica for six weeks, said he thought the experiment "turned out OK." The episode airs at 2 p.m.
"I thought she did really well on the ice and looked cute in her blue tutu," he said. "She was no Nancy Kerrigan, but she did a few little tricks and skated backwards. She certainly was more confident. I think the program was very successful for her."
An hour before Mike and Jessica's episode, you can catch another local, Bryce, also getting his "Made" moment. The class clown wants to shed his goofball image and transform himself into a ballroom dancer. Must be a "Dancing with the Stars" thing.
Naturally, the kid is hauled into Salon Mario Russo on Newbury Street for a full make-over before he hits the floor.
Just call it "Made" in Massachusetts.
